Just taking a quick moment out of my very busy day (can you say "Last minute" gift preparations?") to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Running out the door for 7pm candlelit church service... taking Keaton - he will hopefully behave. Chloe is not going - out of the question (ha). She is just not gonna sit still for 1hr (nor 2 minutes)
Excited to see family and friends. Give gifts. Watch the kids... experience the magic.

we named him Henry...seems to suit. He loves to cuddle and sleep and run after the kids. We had some food issues and still do... won't eat anything we give him. but i got him to eat a bit last night and today so i am feeling better about that. big changes for the little guy i suppose. he is young too. and he is cute. he has stolen our hearts already.
any crate training advice would be appreciated. he is in his 'cage' beside our bed at night and seems to be ok with that once he yelps for 1/2 hr...then he settles in for the night til about 5am when he wakes us up to get him outside to pee. then he is coming in the bed for the rest of the morning (about 1 hr) - is that ok?

today, out of the clear blue, we bought a puppy. something we've always kinda wanted but weren't sure we could find time for.
But...we walk by a place today - peeked inside... i saw him - and it was a done deal. couldn't resist him. something about him. love him already!
he needs a name. nothing doggish like "cocoa" (that my husband suggested - ha!)
something - just not sure what - please please please give me suggestions.

...today. wow, the times are flying by.
Keaton had school today so this was the only photo I got of him before the sun went down on his day. He got to have a mini-celebration at school - i took in a Batman cake for his class to enjoy during the afternoon. The kids were all excited about the big Batman symbol on the cake.
Keaton wanted Chinese food for his birthday supper so Mom & I took him to our favourite chinese place... and that boy ATE. I still cannot believe how much he can consume in a sitting... if it is something he likes.
Shaune unfortunately had work til almost 8pm so he missed the fun. Keaton will be allowed to stay up late - they are busy right now putting together one of K's gifts (a table hockey game) so they can play.
I'm sure all you Mom's do this when your 'baby' turns another year older - but i can't help thinking back to 5 years ago when my life changed so much - when i became a mom for the first time. After a horribly long and awful labour... Keaton came into our lives and nothing has ever been the same since. I remember him lying in the bassinet next to my hospital bed and i would just stare at him for hours. I remember looking at him and wondering what he would be like and how he would change our world.
Now, five years have flown by. He has a little crazy sister now. He is absolutely a captivating beautiful child - just like he was back then. He is magical... that is the only way to explain Keaton and his personality. I look back on the years so far and feel so excited that he is my son. that this is a life i get to have with him. i look at him - grinning so big and so proud to be getting 'bigger and older'... and i just want to stop the clock - but then i remember how fun this journey has been - and how it is just going to get better and better.
And then i can breathe again and not feel too sad that my baby boy is now a FIVE YEAR OLD!

i love birthday parties. every year we do it up and the kids have so much fun. this year i decided Keaton was old enough to just have a more intimate affair with his close older friends. so the babies stayed home (other than his pouty sister) and so did the parents. One by one they stopped by...kids ran in the house and the parents gladly drove off for a few hours. Shaune and i were in charge of 9 children in total and it was fun ...even if it was extremely loud and messy and crazy.
The kids had a blast i think. they did the pin the tail on the donkey thing and then cake and then i let them dig into my stash of scrapbook 'things' and they were in heaven. Never have i seen so many buttons and stickers on one page (ha). The gift opening was a frenzy of squeeling and loud horrays. Keaton was really keen on his Batman costume he got and wore it around the rest of the party (well, he, curtis and brooke all took turns wearing it the rest of the party).
The party was inside because it is freakin' cold outside. Thought about having a toboggan party but then rethought it when i realized probably only 1/2 of them would want to stay out in the snow for very long. So, we were inside and limited on space. the kids didn't seem to mind though and ran around playing games...
Keaton turns 5 on Tuesday and I cannot even believe it. Sigh. He loved his party and went to bed with a smile on his face (at 10:30pm - gasp!)
... Nana and Poppa Lightfoot took the kids to see Santa a few wks back when they were babysitting for us. I think Chloe was a handful and this was the best photo they could get of her... at least sitting on his lap.
Yesterday we took the kids to get their photos done. I haven't done this in years. The last (and only other) photo Chloe had done at a photo-studio was when she was 4 wks old. Needless to say she has changed a lot (ha) and was much easier to photograph way back when she couldn't move much. She did pretty good with Keaton when i had their photo done together (smiling and everything) but when it was her turn to be alone in front of the camear - forget it. She just sat there sucking her thumb and twirling her ponytail - sweet...but not the photo we went there for. Eventually she just lied down on the table she was sat on and gave up. The photographer got one decent on of her when she looked up and smiled for an instant.
No wonder i only do that once every 2 years. I much prefer candid photos that i can get at home, but it was time...so we did it. and now i don't need to do it again for a while ;)
Keaton's birthday party is today. This afternoon parents will drop 7 kids ages 4-7 off at our house for 2 hours of complete mayhem and fun i suspect. Wish me luck!
keaton's hair was getting so long. we had visions of really cool shaggy long hair on him... but most the time it was just not a good scene. so last night we caved and took him in for a haircut. we kept it kinda long and he wanted messy like a 'rock star'... so this is what the finished product was.
he likes it because he says his hair now has "Flames". i seriosly just think his love of Peter Pan morphed into a peter pan hairstyle.
The resemblence is funny.
i haven't decided if i "Love" it yet, but he does ...so i guess that is what is important.
He looks older - and THAT is what i think i take issue with. How dare he! ;)
