We had a great time at our annual Halloween Party today. We held it at a hall and invited all our friends with young kids, including some school friends of K and Chloe's. John and Michelle co-hosted it and we held a clothing drive with donations of new clothing going to the orphanages we will visit next year when we travel to adopt our daughter. Our friends were all so generous and I came home with a lot of beautiful baby clothing for the children in Vietnam. Thank you to all our friends for coming, for supporting this cause that is dear to our hearts and for bringing your wonderful children, I love them all and I feel so lucky that my kids have so many wonderful play pals in our group of friends.
I managed a few less-than-stellar photos during the mayhem. I have tried to count the kids in some of the photos and I'm estimating there was about 50 children in attendance, maybe closer to 60 actually. All the parents came too and we all feasted on pot-luck Halloween yummies while the kids all ran around and had a blast in their costumes.
Shaune and I dressed up. I was a witch (again) and Shaune was Obi-wan Kenobi. Keaton was Boba Fett from Star Wars, and Chloe was Barbie Island Princess.
The party was a big success. Much sugar was consumed by wee-little children and nobody barfed this year. YAY! Until next time... here are some photos.
This week Keaton's class went to the Frink Center (again) and then the next day Chloe's class went on a Fall excursion to an apple orchard, a hiking trail & then to a vegetable farm.
I tagged along for both, since I know I have to go on these class trips while my kids are still young enough to be really excited that mommy is with them :)
Keaton's class did some hiking at the Frink Center on their nature trails, played fox and rabbit games (hide and seek) and made nature crafts.
Chloe's class, along with the Grade 1 class had a great day of 'fall' activities. This was Chloe's first ever class trip so she was stoked and excited that I was able to come with her on the bus to the different spots on our trip. First stop was the apple orchard where the kids got to see sheep and turkeys and then picked their own delicious apples - Empire apples. From there they ate lunch at Sager's Conservation area and did a hike up to a look out tower. Final spot on our trip was Willowcreek Farms where they got to pick out a pumpkin to take home, as well as hear stories, learn about harvest time and veggies and run through a corn maze.
The local paper was at Willowcreek and Chloe managed to get on the front page of the newspaper with her friend Erica and another boy from Grade 1. Cute!
Better Homes and Gardens Scrapbooks Etc magazine has a bunch of new blogs and I am co-hosting the photography blog with my friend - the very talented Erin Terrell Clarkson. I will be posting various tips and information on photography, on a bi-weekly basis. Also, if you have any photography questions, feel free to post them on here or on the "Photog Blog" & I will attempt to tackle them.
For anyone interested, go a nd bookmark the blog and check back often for updates and fun stuff:
Whyte family Boulter Thanksgiving... after a slow start (the minivan was empty so we had to drive into the city for gas before heading into the country for our 1.5 hr drive north) we got to Boulter around 2:30pm. We quickly got on the haywagon (1 of 2 wagons to accomodate everyone) and we were off. It is hard to explain this tradition unless you have experienced it. Imagine a very large family plus all their extended family, grandchildren, etc. We all know eachother and we all love eachother and it is great fun. A lot of laughs are shared (and a lot of drinks and a lot of food) during the 2 or more hour ride through the country side. The rain held off until we were back at the house with the wagons. The kids had a blast, and met new friends. It was such an easy, happy day and although the fog and rainy weather weren't what we ordered, it did not stop family from dancing on the verandah all evening (I wish I'd gotten a photo of Chloe dancing with Uncle Milton) and children running in the rain. We got home at about 11pm, tired and ready to do it again the next day.
The next day (today)...
Aunt Ann was gracious and wonderful to invite us for an Emerson Thanksgiving celebration with Gram Emerson. My Gram is 94 years old. She is everything to our family. It was so nice to spend the day with her and with my cousins, aunts and uncles. The kids love playing with all the cousins & it was a great day to sit outside on the back deck by the water and chill with yummy desserts and tea! Aunt Ann and Uncle Terry - the meal was amazing. Thank you for including our family and making the best darn turkey ever!
And here is some silly ones I took of the kids today, modeling the pretty wreath my mom made for our front door. Isn't it gorgeous?!
an amazing husband, always supportive, kind and loving to us.
a wonderful extended family, all of whom I crave spending time with and cherish very much. How lucky am I to have so many cousins, aunts and uncles that I consider dear friends!?
a cozy home full of noise, laughter and love (and a little dust and dog hair!)
2 wonderful Thanksgiving's day celebrations... 2 wonderfully fantastic days!
a 94 year old Gram that I think the world of and was so happy to spend Thanksgiving with.
2 beautiful children that make me laugh and keep me on my toes all the day long.
a 'puppy' that is finally house trained and out of his crate, sleeping beside us in all his contended glory each night. (spoiled dog!)
a hope that our little girl in Vietnam will come home in the coming year and complete our loving family.
a fantastic and truly blessed life. I'm so happy it is mine.
...to be more specific - "Star WarsLego". He and his dad have been working on this specific Jedi Fighter with Hyperdrive Booster Ring for over a week. Nana Emerson brought it home from her trip to Pennsylvania & he was eager to get it finished. Kudo's to Shaune for having the dexterity and patience to make these ships with Keaton. As soon as he got it finished tonight, Keaton ran upstairs and insisted that I take his photo with it and post it on our blog :)
So... here it is, in all its 575 pieces glory!
Keaton asked me to add this to my blog post: "Star Wars Lego is my favourite thing. But my best thing is my mom and dad and I'll love them forever!"
(He is a sweetie pie, and maybe... just maybe is kissing up for another Lego kit!)
