Keaton and his hockey

My boy is living and breathing hockey right now. He made the rep team for the Novice division and he is on the ice a lot all of a sudden. We had an exhibition game in Campbellford on Friday evening and drove 2 hrs Saturday morning for his first 'official' game against Lindsay. The Lindsay team smoked us, wow! But, the kids had fun and they are improving so much with each and every game. They try so hard and I love watching them play. It looks like it is going to be a busy winter with travel each week and many practices and home games also. Am I ready to be a hockey mom??? I guess I'd better be!

Studio Calico October kit

I had the honour of being the guest artist for a groovy kit company known as Studio Calico. They have amazing kits monthly and I got the chance to design 3 pages and  1 card using their "Looking Glass" October 2008 kit. If you get a chance, go check out there kits... I think they are really well put together.

Stratford Getaway

Shaune and I just got home from a 3 day getaway in Stratford, Ontario. Actually - Shaune was there at a conference and working - I was having the getaway.

It was beautiful and I had a great time. Stratford is a really unique town. It is a theatre town and hosts an impressive theatre for Shakespearian plays and the likes. On Wednesday night we met up with friends and attended the play "Caesar and Cleopatra". It starred Christopher Plummer whom I'm sure we all remember as Captian Von Trapp in the wonderful movie "Sound of Music". We also went out for a delicious supper at Rene's Bistro in downtown Stratford.

A few days away was a nice treat. I feel refreshed and ready for another busy weekend and week ahead. Thanks Mom for getting Keaton to hockey practice and Chloe to ballet. What would I do without you?

Some stamping fun

I am really enjoying working with Hero Arts stamps and participating on their web design team. I have learned so much about stamping from their blog and from experimenting with all their delicious stamps. Thought I'd share a few projects I made using the Birds & Branches clear stamp set they have. It is probably my newest favourite!

A "Mommy and Kid" Date

...that is what Chloe calls her days at home with me when Keaton is at school... when we take a little day trip somewhere and spend quality time together. I call it a date but she calls it a "mommy and kid date". I think she is so cute. She had a great time on our date. We went to Campbell's Orchard and then for a chinese food lunch.

Campbell's Orchard was beautiful today and not too busy. I was sure it was going to rain but the weather held out and we spent a couple hours hanging out at the little petting zoo they have and buying up veggies and fruits. Chloe had the best time just playing and running about. She found a bunny rabbit hopping around the property and made it her mission to make friends with it. She succeeded when she offered the little bunny some of her apple. Chloe is now convinced she needs a pet bunny - I say NO to that idea!

After Campbell's we went to one of our favourite chinese food restaurants at the east end of the city. I had rice and chowmein and Chloe had her usual: Won Ton Soup (or as she calls it: Ton Ton soup - straight from Star Wars I guess).

It was a great day... our 'mommy and kid' date!

Happy Anniversary #10!!!

 

It is hard to believe that 10 yrs have flown by already. We spent the night at hockey try-outs for K. Really romantic, right?! In our defence we did not know about the try-outs til Wednesday night and otherwise were planning on hitting the town to celebrate. My sweetie did treat me to sushi lunch at one of my favourite restaurants and we are planning on celebrating next week when we have some time carved out for us.

HappyAnniversary Shaune. I love you every bit as much as I did on September 12th, 1998 - in fact I love you even more.

10 yrs. Wow. We are getting old! Wink!

Hey :)

Good Times!

Our girlfriend weekend away was long overdue and it was fantastic. I laughed so much and took away so many fond memories. We watched Sex & the City final season DVD's, as well as two scary movies... or should I say 1 1/2 scary movies. One was ejected half way through because it was just too over the top for us old gals ;) Vacancy with Luke Wilson & Kate Beckinsale was actually pretty good and gave me yet another reason never to stop and stay at a roadside drive in motel. Ick and yuck and yikes! The other movie we rented was High Tension and omg.... it was something else. I blame my insomnia and lack of sleep the past 2 nights on that movie!

Anyhow, it was a fun time and one of the few times we've all been together without all our kiddies or hubbies in quite some time. We were silly, we ate great food, we snuggled and reminisced. It was wonderful.

Some things I will always remember:

*Melissa on top of the gas pump in her stilleto's

*Lori's fascination with the little 2 seater airplane

*the spa being closed for the weekend (boo!)

*my cherry fizzers

*our porch party after watching that hideously scary High Tension movie

*convincing Pam, Ang and Rhonda that they needed to sign up and get onto the Facebook thing

*the look on Lori's face when Melissa scared her (its becoming a tradition of sorts)

*Gwen's salad and Melissa's creme brulee

*Kerri's giggles

*Lori's insomnia

*celebrating Gwen's 35th birthday

*Sangria is better than I thought it was!

*Melissa's inability to walk in flat shoes

...and so many other things too!

Great time with friends

Why it took us over 6 yrs to plan this next girls getaway is beyond me. It probably has something to do with the fact that we have 18 children between us and almost all of them are 7 yrs old or younger :)

Regardless of how long this took to organize, I can report it was an amazing weekend full of friendship and laughter. I feel very blessed to call these girls my bestest friends and I feel like I know them all so well - they are really more like family. Nothing can compare to friendships that have endured time, distance as well as good and hard times. I can guarantee that we WILL NOT go another 6+ years til our next weekend away together. I think we are already planning next years!

I will post some photos a bit later but had to share this photo... it is the photo of the plane that Shaune and I got engaged in many many many years ago (over 11yrs to be exact). You see, our girls getaway took place at the resort that Shaune wisked me away to way back in 1997 where he asked me to marry him. Walking the grounds brought back a lot of fond memories. I had to take some photos of the plane we rode in the skies in when he proposed to me.
